Clubs and Societies Award Nominations

The Student Association of the University of Notre Dame Australia (SAUNDA), Sydney, recognises the importance of clubs and societies to fostering community within the University. As the governing body on Campus the Student Association wants to recognise the efforts and achievements of individuals and Clubs on the Sydney Campus.

General Guidelines

The Student Association Clubs and Societies Awards:

  1. Established to recognise the achievements of club members and student clubs and societies;

  2. All nominated clubs and societies must be affiliated with the Student Association and University to be eligible for an award;

  3. A subsidiary body of an affiliated club is eligible to nominate for a club award provided the parent club continues to be affiliated;

  4. All nominated clubs and societies must be not have had any penalty imposed by the Student Association in the past year for non-compliance with any of the Student Association or University Policy and Procedure;

  5. All nominees must still be a continuing student at the University of Notre Dame Australia, Sydney, or the Club must still be actively operating on Campus;

  6. The Student Association Committee reserves the right to publish information submitted in the nominating an individual or club for the purposes of promoting the awards.

Clubs may be judged on any combination of the following criteria and in addition to any specific criteria stipulated for an award:

  • Has a continuing active Club status and is still in good standing (i.e. is not under any penalty imposed by the Student Association for non-compliance with policy or procedures) on Campus;

  • The work the nominated club/society or individual has rendered to the student community in the 2022 - 2023 period

  • Whether the club has provided a service/benefits to the greatest amount of students; and

  • The efforts by a club/individual to building a sense of community across the Sydney Campus.


1.  Club of the Year Award Award

Club of the Year Award was established to recognise a club or society on campus that has played a proactive role in fostering community and improving the quality of student life.

Club of the Year Award Criteria:

The nominee must fit the following criteria.

  • Leadership

    • Ability of the club or society to work effectively as a team; and

    • Ability to communicate effectively within their team, to membership, and university at large

  • Performance

    • Ability to accomplish tasks or objectives, including effective pre-planning, use of budget, time to accomplish tasks or objectives and the way it was achieved

    • Demonstrate creativity in their work to accomplish their objectives;

    • Demonstrate initiative to furthering the development of the club and student community;

    • Demonstrate any growth and development within the club

  • Dedication

    • Demonstrate a positive attitude towards the university community and to increase the quality to student life on campus; and

    • Demonstrated a dedication to the students of the university, their membership and to the objectives of the club and university

  • Service

    • Proactive engagement in serving the members of their club and student community broadly


2. Member Engagement Award

This award seeks to recognize a club or society who has developed and shown growth over the course of their existence as a club or society. The group demonstrates a commitment to strengthening their internal operations and/or presence on campus. Criteria includes but is not limited to, progress through programs, contributions to the campus community, membership growth, communication, etc.

 Member Engagement Award Criteria:

  • Demonstrates progress through programs and events run during 2023

  • Contributes to the campus community positively fostering a safe and welcoming environment

  • Provides opportunities for growth of their members

  • Utilises a number of methods in order to communicate cohesively to their members and allows for opportunities for member input

  • Shows great commitment to social media and online presentation


3. SAUNDA Spirit Award

This award aims to recognise clubs and societies that have visibly made collaboration a top priority this past year in furtherance of fostering community.

 SAUNDA Spirit Award Criteria:

  • A club should demonstrate their appropriateness for the award

  • Visibly made collaboration a top priority this past year in furtherance of fostering community

  • Significant club involvement in collaborative efforts within the Notre Dame community and to broader community issues


4. Father John Neill OP Award

Father John Neill OP was a visionary leader among the Notre Dame Campus. In 2014 he received an Order of Australia for his significant contribution to education and the Catholic Church. At Notre Dame we have been privileged to have had Father John Neill OP work so closely with students throughout his time.

This award is dedicated to an individual among the Notre Dame community who has has delivered an outstanding contribution to their society and the wider University. This individual, although in some cases not occupying a leadership position in a club or society, has countlessly ensured that they have made a positive impact to the group.

Father John Neill OP Award Criteria:

  • Person has to be on a club or society in 2023

  • Must be currently enrolled as a student at the University of Notre Dame Sydney

  • Made an impact on the club or society in line with the Notre Dame values

  • Upheld the universities core principles of pastoral care and making outstanding contributions to student experience
